Saint Details

St. Catherine Laboure was born on May 2, 1806, in Fain-les-Moutiers, Burgundy, France, as the ninth of eleven children. Her early life was marked by tragedy when her mother passed away when she was just nine years old. This loss led her to turn to the Virgin Mary for comfort, setting the stage for her deep devotion. At the age of 21, Catherine entered the Daughters of Charity, a congregation founded by St. Vincent de Paul. It was during her time at the Motherhouse in Paris that she experienced a series of visions from the Virgin Mary in 1830, instructing her to create the Miraculous Medal. This medal, with its image of Mary standing on a globe, soon became renowned for its association with miracles and conversions. Catherine kept her role in its creation a secret, only revealing it to her confessor until near her death. She passed away on December 31, 1876. Her body was found incorrupt fifty-seven years later, a testament to her sanctity. Catherine was canonized on July 27, 1947, by Pope Pius XII, and her feast day is celebrated on November 28. Her legacy continues to inspire devotion and faith worldwide.
