St. Drogo was born in 1105 in Epinoy, France, to a noble family. His life took a dramatic turn when his mother died in childbirth, leaving him an orphan. Raised by relatives, Drogo later renounced his wealth and titles to live a life of poverty and penance. He became a shepherd in Sebourg, where he spent six years tending to sheep and deepening his spiritual practices. His devotion and charity earned him the respect of the local community.
Drogo's spiritual journey continued with multiple pilgrimages to Rome and other holy sites in France and Italy. However, a debilitating hernia eventually forced him to settle in Sebourg, where he built a small hermitage attached to the local church. For 40 years, he lived as an anchorite, surviving on barley, water, and the Eucharist. Despite his physical afflictions, Drogo remained a source of spiritual guidance and comfort for those who sought him out.
St. Drogo passed away on April 16, 1186. His legacy as a patron saint of shepherds, coffee house owners, and those with physical disabilities has endured. He was canonized in 1685, recognizing his extraordinary devotion and humility. Today, St. Drogo's life serves as a powerful example of spiritual resilience and the acceptance of physical suffering.
