Saint Details
St. Hubert, born around 656 in what is now France, was the eldest son of the Duke of Aquitaine. Initially, he lived a life of luxury and was deeply involved in hunting and courtly pleasures. However, his life took a profound turn when he encountered a vision of a stag with a crucifix between its antlers while hunting on Good Friday. This experience led him to renounce his worldly titles and possessions, dedicating himself to a life of faith.
Under the guidance of Bishop Lambert of Maastricht, Hubert studied for the priesthood and was ordained. Following Lambert's assassination, Hubert became the Bishop of Liège in 708. He was known as the "Apostle of the Ardennes" for his tireless efforts in evangelizing the region and converting many pagans to Christianity. St. Hubert died on May 30, 727, and his feast day is celebrated on November 3. He is revered as the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians, and metalworkers, among others. His legacy extends to promoting ethical hunting practices and spiritual devotion, with his influence still felt in the Ardennes region and beyond. St. Hubert was canonized in 1024, solidifying his place in Catholic tradition as a symbol of transformation and devotion.
