St. Philip Neri was born on July 21, 1515, in Florence, Italy. He moved to Rome in 1533, where he dedicated his life to serving the poor and revitalizing the faith during the Counter-Reformation. Philip became a priest in 1551 and quickly gained prominence for his pastoral care and efforts to minister to marginalized communities. His work led to the formation of the Congregation of the Oratory, a society of secular clergy focused on prayer, music, and informal spiritual gatherings.

Philip Neri was known for his humility, humor, and deep prayer life, attracting many followers through his charisma and pastoral care. He played a significant role in fostering lay spirituality and promoting sacred music, such as oratorios. His influence extended beyond Rome, as he helped secure the reconciliation of King Henry IV of France with the Church. Philip Neri died on May 26, 1595, after a day of hearing confessions.
