St. Martha

St. Martha is a revered figure in Christian tradition, best known from the New Testament accounts in the Gospels of Luke and John. She was a resident of Bethany, a village near Jerusalem, and is often remembered as the sister of Mary and Lazarus. Martha"s life is intertwined with some of the most poignant moments in Jesus" ministry. Her story is a testament to her deep faith, hospitality, and service. Martha is first mentioned in the Gospel of Luke (10:38-42), where she welcomes Jesus into her home. While she is busy with the duties of hospitality, her sister Mary sits at Jesus" feet, listening to his teachings. When Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her, Jesus gently reminds her that Mary has chosen the better part, emphasizing the importance of spiritual nourishment over worldly concerns. In the Gospel of John (11:1-44), Martha"s faith is further highlighted during the raising of her brother Lazarus from the dead. When Jesus arrives after Lazarus has died, Martha expresses her belief in Jesus" power, stating, "I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."
